The Theme Menu

Informz makes stylizing your templates easy with the Theme menu. This menu, which you'll access from the right side of Template Designer, is your one-stop-shop for all the high-level properties you can set in your template.

By setting your template properties in one place, you'll guarantee that your branding is consistent throughout your design. Best of all, you can "lock" your theme once you're finished. This ensures that the look and feel of your template is preserved throughout the entire mailing creation process.

Let's take a detailed look at the many options available in the Theme menu.

The Theme Menu

To navigate to the different Template Theme pages within the Theme menu, click the Element dropdown list. You’ll have several options:

  • Template Width
  • Mailing Content
  • Background
  • Text
  • Hyperlinks
  • Button
  • Lists

Each element is defined in detail in the sub-sections below.

Template Width

The Template Width lets you set high-level properties for your template. These properties define the page appearance for your template.

  • Template Width: Click the dropdown list to select a width for the template (between 600-700 pixels in increments of 10 pixels).
  • Padding: Click the dropdown list to select the internal padding for the template (between 0-30 pixels).

Mailing Content

The Mailing Content properties set the spacing between stories and columns in your template.

  • Spacing Between Stories: Click the dropdown list to set the vertical spacing between mailing content areas (between 0-50 pixels).
  • Spacing Between Columns: Click the dropdown list to set the horizontal spacing between mailing content areas (between 0-50 pixels).

Background

The Background properties allow you to set colors for your body (background) and template (foreground) fields.

  • Body Background: Click to open a color picker and select a body color.
  • Template Background: Click to open a color picker and select a template color (this appears directly behind your layouts).

Text

The Text properties allows you to style the text properties within your template. These properties are modified in the text properties editor.

First, select a text type to modify. You'll have the following options:

  • Heading 1
  • Heading 2
  • Heading 3
  • Sub-Heading 1
  • Sub-Heading 2
  • Sub-Heading 3
  • Standard Text 1
  • Standard Text 2
  • Standard Text 3

Once you've selected your desired text type, you can modify the corresponding properties:

  • Text Color: Click to open a color picker and select a text color.
  • Font Family: Click to select a font family. Font families render progressively – if one font fails in a browser, the mailing defaults to the next available option in the font family.
  • Font Size: Click to select a font size (8-50 pixels)
  • Font Weight: Select either normal or bold font.
  • Line Height: Select the line space (1 to 2 ems).

To attempt to hyphenate words in your mailing, check the Attempt to hyphenate words in sent mailing checkbox. See this article for additional details.

Note that if text properties are not defined in a layout, the layout uses the Standard Text 1 for the text type. Additionally, note that text type cannot be modified if the template has been "locked."

Hyperlinks

These properties affect the hyperlinks in your text fields.

  • Text Color: If checked, hyperlinks use the paragraph text color. Uncheck to select a new color for your hyperlinks.
  • Font Weight: If checked, hyperlinks use the paragraph font weight. Uncheck to select either normal or bold for your hyperlinks.
  • Text Decoration: Select either none (no decoration) or underlined.

Button

These properties affect any buttons that you add to your mailing.

  • Background: Click to open a color picker and select a color for your buttons.
  • Text Color: Click to open a color picker and select a text color.
  • Expansion: Click to select between default buttons an expanded button that extends to the page edges.
  • Size: Click to select a button size (tiny, small, default, or large).
  • Alignment: Click to set the horizontal alignment for your buttons (left, center, or right).
  • Text Decoration: Select either none (no decoration) or underlined.
  • Font Family: Click to select a font family for the button. By default, this dropdown uses the Standard Text 1 font family. Selecting a new font family overrides Standard Text 1. As above, font families render progressively – if one font fails in a browser, the mailing defaults to the next available option in the font family.

Lists

These properties affect any Lists in your mailing (such bulleted lists). Note that lists typically inherit styles from a default text type. You can override these styles by unchecking the corresponding checkboxes.

  • Text Color: Click to open a color picker and select a text color.
  • Font Size: Click to select a font size (8-50 pixels)
  • Line Height: Select the line space (1 to 2 ems).
  • Font Family: Click to select a font family. Font families render progressively – if one font fails in a browser, the mailing defaults to the next available option in the font family.
  • Font Weight: Select either normal or bold font.
