Recency and Frequency Rules

Informz uses both recency and frequency rules to help determine limits on the number of mailings sent to subscribers. Recency rules limit the number of mailings by setting the minimum number of days between mailings. Frequency rules limit the number of mailings by setting a maximum number of mailings to receive each month.

Steps

Recency Rules

Navigate to Mailings > Recency & Frequency Rules.

Click the Recency Rules tab in the list view.

Click Create Recency.

The Add Recency Rule window opens. Click the dropdown list to select the minimum number of days between mailings (1-30).

Click Save. The new rule displays in the recency list view.

Frequency Rules

Navigate to Mailings > Recency & Frequency Rules.

Click the Frequency Rules tab in the list view.

Click Create Freq.

The Add Frequency Rule window opens. Click the dropdown list to select the maximum number of mailings for the month (1-30).

Click Save. The new rule displays in the frequency list view.

Other Notes

  • Recency rules are based on the calendar day, not a 24-hour period. For example, if you set your recency to a one-day minimum, you can send a mailing on 11:00 pm on Monday and another at 9:00 am on Tuesday.
  • Frequency rules are based on the calendar month, not a 30-day period. For example, if you set your frequency for a calendar month to a maximum of 10, you can send 10 mailings in the last week of November and another 10 the first week of December (so long as your recency rules allow this!).
  • Recency and Frequency rules, when set, apply to all mailings.

Simple Steps, Powerful Solution

With these simple steps, you’ll help ensure a couple important things. First, you can rest assured that your subscribers are not overwhelmed with mailings. Second, you’ll help protect your ability to deliver mailings by making sure that you send at the appropriate volume (i.e. that you don’t oversend!). With these ideas in mind, check out the Recency and Frequency rules feature and fine tune them to your needs!
