Layouts - Footers

Footers are a common location for contact information, social media links, and unsubscribe links in your mailings. Template Designer makes it easy to create professional footers with little hassle! Let's learn how.

Adding Footers

As with all Template Designer layouts, you can drag and drop your footers onto the canvas. Simply click-and-hold the layout you wish to add, drag your cursor to your desired location, and release.

When you release, your layout becomes part of the template and is ready for editing.

Top-Level Properties

You can set the following top-level properties for all footer types:

  • Use Default Background: If checked, your footer uses the background color set in the Theme menu. If unchecked, you can use the color picker to select a unique color for the layout’s background.
  • Border: If checked, your footer applies a border with several possible settings.
    • Border Style: Click the dropdown to select a solid, dashed, or dotted border.
    • Border Size: Click the dropdown to set the border size in pixels (1-10).
    • Border Color: Click to use the color picker to select a unique color for the layout’s border.
    • Apply Border To: Check the corresponding checkbox for each side (top, bottom, left, and right) that uses the border.

  • Banner: Check to extend your footer to the edges of the mailing body.
  • Padding: Click the dropdown list to set the padding around your footer (0-30 pixels).
    • Apply Padding To: Check the corresponding checkbox for each side (top, bottom, left, and right) that applies padding.

  • Banded Background: Click the icon that represents your desired “banding” effect.
    • Select Default to keep your layout within the mailing body.
    • Select Banded to extend your layout to the edges of the page.

  • Vertical Align: Click the dropdown list to set a vertical alignment option (top, middle, or bottom).

Additionally, you can set the text properties for each area within your footer. Please see the text properties editor article for additional information about how to use this editor.

Default Footers

All footers are located under the Default Footers menu. There are three default footers that you can add to your template:

  • Contact with Social Icons
  • Centered Contact with Social Icons
  • Contact Information

The following subsections define additional functionality for each of these footer types.

Footers are typically added with built-in sections. These sections cannot be deleted from within the footer and contain the following editing options:

  • Use Default Background
  • Border
  • Padding
  • Vertical Align

Beyond Footnotes and Page Numbers

Footers have evolved a lot with modern technology. No longer just a home for page numbers, footnotes, and other citations, footers in your mailings are where your readers expect to find important information about your organization. Additionally, most readers expect the required unsubscribe link to live in this part of your mailing, so be sure to get to acquainted with these layouts! You'll be glad you did!
