2017-09-21 Release Notes

Release Date: September 21, 2017

This release includes several enhancements to Template Designer 2 (TD2) and Mailing Designer 2 (MD2).

A/B Testing – One Story

You can now apply A/B testing to a story MD2.

Steps

Navigate to the Content tab in the left panel and click A/B Test this Story. This opens a new pop-up window where you can do either (a) copy the A Version of your story or (b) create a new story in the same location. Please note that you can only create stories from the available story types in the mailing content area.

You can distinguish the two versions (A and B) In the MD2 Design tab by the layout color:

  • The A Version has a gold bar with the letter “A” in the story type.
  • The B Version has a dark blue bar with the letter “B” in the story type.

Keep in mind that the A Version and the B Version can use different story types. Additionally, note that you can rearrange these stories on the canvas so that the B Version appears above the A Version (see below).

Deleting either story automatically disables A/B testing (you’ll be asked to confirm).

Additional Details

Please note the following details:

  • You can only use A/B Testing for one story in a mailing. Once you have applied it to a story, it is disabled for all subsequent stories.
  • Both the A Version and B Version are considered part of a single mailing content area. They do not individually count toward the maximum number of stories unless they are split into separate mailing content areas.
  • You can use the Send Test and the Reviewer with A/B Testing.
  • To use Story-Level Targeting, select the subset of your target group in the A Version (you can see the targeting from the B Version, but the ability to select a specific subset is disabled).
  • A/B stories cannot have unique bookmark names. However, regardless of the version a subscriber receives, any bookmarks automatically link to the correct mailing content area.
  • Personalization tests show all personalizations available in the mailing (both versions).

Externally-Hosted Images

Users can now add externally-hosted images (aka “Third-Party Images”) in TD2 and MD2. Informz only uses externally-hosted images from the HTTPS protocol.

Template Designer 2

In TD2, click an image layout to open the Image Properties panel. Next, click Choose Another Image.

In the new window, click Use External Image.

Enter the image URL in the provided field.

Click Insert. Informz inserts the externally-hosted image (referenced by the URL) into the template.

Mailing Designer 2

In MD2, click Add Story and add a story type that contains an image. Next, click the image itself to open the Image Properties panel.

Click Choose Another Image.

In the new window, click Use External Image.

Enter the image URL in the provided field.

Click Insert. Informz inserts the externally-hosted image (referenced by the URL) into the mailing.

Validation Steps

Informz performs several validations after a user clicks Insert. These validations determine:

  • If the URL does not lead to an image.
  • If the URL is invalid.
  • If the URL field is empty.

Padding Controls (Images and Buttons)

Users in TD2 and MD2 can now apply padding for inline images and buttons.

Template Designer 2

When you add a layout that includes an image, you can apply padding based on the image alignment. The table below shows the different padding options that are available:

Image Alignment Padding Options
Left Right, Bottom
Right Left, Bottom
Top Bottom
Center Bottom

Additionally, button layouts allow users to apply top and bottom padding.

Custom layouts that include inline images or buttons allow the same padding controls listed above.

Applying Padding to Images

Select the layout in your template and click the Image Properties Style tab.

Click the Alignment dropdown list to select the image alignment (left, top, or right). The alignment changes the padding menu to reveal any available padding options. You can apply 0-30 pixels of padding in any of the available options (these options are controlled independently).

Applying Padding to Buttons

Select the layout in your template that contains a button and click the Button Properties Style tab.

Click the padding dropdown lists (Top or Bottom) to apply 0-30 pixels of padding (these options controlled independently).

Mailing Designer 2

Users can apply padding to the following built-in story types:

  • Image with Text
  • News Item
  • New Story with Button

Just like layouts, the padding options that are available for story types depend on the image alignments (see the table above for the available options).

Similarly, users can apply top and bottom padding to the following story types:

  • New Story with Button
  • Button

Applying Padding to Images

Select the story in your mailing and click the Image Properties Style tab.

Click the Alignment dropdown list to select the image alignment (left, top, or right). The alignment changes the padding menu to reveal any available padding options. You can apply 0-30 pixels of padding in any of the available options (these options are controlled independently).

Applying Padding to Buttons

Select the story in your mailing that contains a button and click the Button Properties Style tab.

Click the padding dropdown lists (Top or Bottom) to apply 0-30 pixels of padding (these options controlled independently).

Special Characters

We have resolved several issues that related to special characters in MD2 mailing names and subject lines.

Mailing names and subject lines can contain all Unicode characters as well as multi-byte characters (typically characters from Chinese, Japanese, or Korean that require additional encoding because of their complexity). Similarly, mailing names and subject lines can include emoji characters. This fix allows Informz to display these characters in the following UI locations:

  • Mailing Names in the following home page panels:
    • Recently Sent
    • Recently Edited
    • Scheduled
  • The TD/MD2 mailing tables.
  • Mailing names in the calendar.

Please note that currently, we have only modified the locations listed above. Other UI pages may not display these characters consistently.

Table of Contents Alignment

The Table of Contents layout text did not properly align with the layout bullets when sending mailings. This has been fixed.

Test Mailings – Story-Level Targeting

Users can now test story-level targeting from the MD2 Review & Send tab.

Example Scenario

In this example, you have created a mailing for all subscribers in the Worldwide Members target group. The mailing contains three stories:

  • Story 1: This story uses story-level targeting for the target group subset Canadian Members.
  • Story 2: This story uses story-level targeting for the target group subset United State Members.
  • Story 3: This story does not use story-level targeting (it applies to all Worldwide Members).

When you send a test for the HTML version or for the Text version, Informz sends three different test mailings with each possible recipient permutation:

  • Mailing 1: Story 1 and Story 3
  • Mailing 2: Story 2 and Story 3
  • Mailing 3: Story 3

However, if you send at test for both versions, Informz sends six different test mailings:

  • HTML Mailing 1: Story 1 and Story 3
  • HTML Mailing 2: Story 2 and Story 3
  • HTML Mailing 3: Story 3
  • Text Mailing 1: Story 1 and Story 3
  • Text Mailing 2: Story 2 and Story 3
  • Text Mailing 3: Story 3

Test Mailings – Text Versions

Users can now send text versions of MD2 test mailings. On the Review & Send tab, scroll down to the Get Feedback heading.

Click Send Test to expand the page and reveal the test mailing options. There are three test mailing options:

  • All: Send both the HTML and Text version (this is the default test option).
  • HTML: Send the HTML version only.
  • Text: Send the Text version only.
